HUMPTY DUMPTY

Herbert Humpty

Sid Mercenary Soldier

Originating throughout Europe in the late 1700s, Humpty Dumpty was a children’s riddle that changed through time, acquiring many meanings. Eggs have had a mythical importance to many societies. In an early Finnish epic, the world-egg fell and broke. Its upper part became heaven, its lower part the earth. The yolk formed the sun, the white, the moon and the fragments of the shell became the stars in heaven. I love this! I’ve read various iterations of the poem, but the bottom line is that nobody could put Humpty Dumpty together again!

~

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.

All the king’s horses and all the king’s men

Couldn’t put Humpty together again.
